Workplace Safety

NC Contractor management presenting workplace safety briefing to construction workers at Tuas facility — Singapore safety culture in action

2.2 Million Manhours. Zero Incidents. One Standard.

Safety is not a poster on the wall at NC Contractor — it is how we measure every shift, every project, and every decision.

Our 2026 Workplace Safety Campaign reaffirmed our unwavering commitment to Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) across all operations, from our Tuas fabrication facility to every construction site we serve. Together, our team logged over 2.2 million manhours in 2026 — and we did it with zero incidents.

Our Safety Commitment

NC Contractor operates to the highest workplace safety and health standards in Singapore. We hold BizSAFE STAR — the top tier in the BizSAFE programme administered by the Workplace Safety and Health Council — and we are ISO 45001 certified for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.

These are not just certificates. Every supervisor, every fabricator, every site worker at our 47G and 47H Tuas South Avenue 1 facility operates under a single, non-negotiable standard: every person who arrives at work goes home in the same condition. Our 2026 Safety Campaign reinforced this standard through training, daily practice, and recognition.

2026 Campaign Highlights

Our 2026 campaign concentrated on the highest-risk activities in our trade. Each area was reinforced through daily toolbox talks, on-site demonstrations, and supervisor-led practical sessions. The four pillars below show where we focused — and how we delivered 2.2 million manhours without a reportable incident.

⛑️ Work at Height

Every task at elevation is preceded by hazard identification, harness inspection, and supervisor sign-off. Our 100% tie-off policy means that once a worker is above 2 metres, they are anchored — no exceptions, no shortcuts.

🏗️ Scaffold Safety

All scaffolding is erected by MOM-approved scaffold contractors and inspected before use. Daily pre-shift checks ensure load capacity, bracing, and access ladders meet WSH (Scaffolds) Regulations 2011.

🔗 100% Tie-Off Policy

Falls remain the leading cause of construction fatalities in Singapore. Our zero-tolerance policy on tie-off — combined with the right anchor points, lanyards, and full-body harnesses — has helped us deliver thousands of high-risk tasks without a single fall.

⚠️ Struck-By Prevention

Hard hats, exclusion zones, banksmen for lifting operations, and clear demarcation between live work and pedestrian areas keep our teams protected from falling objects, swinging loads, and moving equipment.

🔥 Practical EHS Training

Beyond construction hazards, our 2026 campaign included hands-on Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) training on fire response. Every team member completed practical drills on fire extinguisher operation using the PASS method:

PPull the pin

AAim the nozzle at the base of the fire

SSqueeze the handle

SSweep side to side

Equally important, our workforce was trained on the decision that comes first: fight or evacuate. We empower every worker to make the right call — when in doubt, evacuate.

💚 Mental Well-Being Matters

Physical safety alone is not enough. Our 2026 campaign placed equal emphasis on mental well-being — recognising that fatigue, dehydration, and unspoken stress are among the leading contributing factors in workplace incidents.

We encourage our team to:

🛑 Every Worker Has the Authority to Stop

Our campaign concluded with a clear, public commitment from management: every NC Contractor team member — from director to junior technician — has the authority to stop unsafe work, immediately, without consequence.

If something feels wrong, we stop. We investigate. We fix the root cause. Then we restart.

This is what BizSAFE STAR and ISO 45001 mean in practice — not paperwork, but real-time decisions backed by real authority.

🏆 Our Safety Champions in Action

The campaign concluded with the recognition of outstanding safety performers across our operations — workers who consistently went beyond compliance, modelled best practice for their peers, and contributed to our zero-incident year. Their leadership is the foundation of our safety culture, and we are grateful for every one of them.
